Yes, you read that right: I'm re-naming what I do. "Art journal" stopped feeling right to me. "Collage" didn't really cover it. So, my pages are now called Journal Collages. Yay for claiming ownership of my own genre.
As always, just playing with composition, materials, and adding more and more of my own handiwork to my journal pages.
I'm happy with how this came together. The page started out as just the middle section, the white square with the girl and the constellation page... and I continued to layer behind it. I've found that's a way to shake up my process a bit: you don't always have to start laying on the background. Sometimes the background can follow.
Anyway, I was almost finished but feeling like it needed some more texture. Other painted pages were clashing and I wasn't feeling like music or text would work. So I drew the little pattern at the top, then added the other patterned bits in the middle to balance it out. I've been meaning to add more of my own drawings to my collage work, so this was kind of a happy accident.
A (succinct) recap of my feelings on dropping David off for his first day of Kindergarten.
The majority of these pages were made with materials very similar to the contents of my newest paper pack collection! Tomorrow morning I'll be adding a new set of Autumn Journal Kits to my etsy shop. Watch for a blog post with details tomorrow!
